Your Opportunity + Impact
The Bridge Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, monitoring, and completion of bridge and transportation infrastructure projects, with a primary focus on NYSDOT clients and programs. This role oversees project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction while managing multidisciplinary project teams throughout all phases of project delivery. The Bridge Project Manager is responsible for client relationship management, business development, contract administration, risk management, and ensuring compliance with applicable NYSDOT, AASHTO, and FHWA requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Develops and manages comprehensive project plans for bridge and transportation structure projects, ensuring alignment with client objectives, organizational goals, and NYSDOT requirements.
- Manages bridge projects for NYSDOT, local municipalities, public authorities, and other transportation-related clients.
- Oversees all phases of project development, including planning, preliminary engineering, final design, permitting coordination, construction support, and project closeout.
- Coordinates across multiple disciplines and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution and delivery.
- Defines and manages project scope through formal change management processes, assessing impacts to budget, schedule, resources, and deliverables.
- Develops and maintains detailed project schedules, monitors milestones, and ensures timely delivery of project commitments.
- Manages project budgets, cost forecasts, revenue projections, and financial performance to maintain alignment with project objectives and company goals.
- Creates and tracks client proposals, including scopes of work, technical and cost proposals, statements of interest, amendments, project budgets, and schedules.
- Prepares workload forecasts and coordinates staffing needs with technical and discipline managers to optimize resource utilization.
- Ensures project compliance with applicable NYSDOT requirements, AASHTO standards, environmental regulations, permitting requirements, and quality control procedures.
- Promotes, utilizes, and supports quality assurance and quality control processes to improve the quality of deliverables and reduce errors and omissions.
- Manages contract administration activities, including reviewing agreements, processing amendments, negotiating scope changes, and monitoring contractual obligations.
- Develops and executes project communication plans, ensuring clients, project teams, subconsultants, and stakeholders remain informed throughout the project lifecycle.
- Prepares and presents project status reports detailing progress, budget performance, schedule status, risks, and key project issues.
- Identifies, evaluates, and manages project risks in accordance with company policy and implements proactive mitigation strategies.
- Builds and maintains strong client relationships with NYSDOT staff, municipalities, public agencies, and transportation stakeholders, ensuring client satisfaction and fostering repeat business opportunities.
- Supports business development efforts by identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, participating in pursuits, and expanding transportation and bridge engineering services.
- Coaches, mentors, and motivates project team members and junior staff while supporting professional development and knowledge sharing.
- Leads by example, demonstrating professionalism, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to exceptional client service.
Education and Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. Master’s degree, preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of twenty (20) years of job related experience, preferably in the A/E industry, including experience managing NYSDOT bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement, and/or construction support projects.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE) required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer (ORD), OpenBridge Designer (OBD), and other transportation and bridge design software programs.
- Strong understanding of NYSDOT project development procedures, AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and applicable transportation industry standards.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple bridge and transportation projects simultaneously while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality objectives.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and project management software such as Microsoft Project or Primavera.
- Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to clients, agencies, and project stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary project team environment.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients, vendors, regulatory agencies, subconsultants, and other external stakeholders.
- Experience with proposal development, fee negotiations, contract management, and transportation-related business development activities.
- Proficiency in public speaking, creating presentations, and leading client and project team meetings.
