Your Opportunity + Impact
The Civil Engineering Technical Manager – Land Development leads and inspires high-performing teams to deliver impactful, community-shaping projects. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with strategic leadership, overseeing the design and execution of land development projects from concept through construction.
As a key leader, you will drive design excellence, ensure quality and regulatory compliance, and influence project success through collaboration with Project Managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. You’ll play a pivotal role in mentoring staff, optimizing team performance, and contributing to the growth and innovation of the land development practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and review the planning and design of land development projects, including site layout, grading, drainage, utilities, and roadway design, ensuring high-quality and compliant deliverables.
- Oversee project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation, proactively identifying risks and driving solutions to keep projects on track.
- Manage the technical, financial, and quality performance of land development projects and supporting teams.
- Serve as a trusted technical expert, providing guidance and resolving complex engineering challenges related to site development and infrastructure.
- Act as Engineer of Record when required, ensuring designs meet all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and standards.
- Collaborate with clients, municipalities, contractors, and internal teams to deliver successful, buildable, and cost-effective solutions.
- Conduct quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) reviews to uphold design integrity and consistency across all project deliverables.
- Support workload forecasting, staffing strategies, and team development to maintain a balanced and high-performing team environment.
- Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and timelines for a variety of land development projects.
- Contribute to business development efforts through client engagement, proposal support, and technical presentations.
- Navigate and support permitting processes, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, zoning ordinances, and agency requirements.
- Review contracts, plans, specifications, and reports to ensure alignment with project goals and technical accuracy.
- Mentor and develop engineering staff through coaching, performance feedback, and career development support, fostering a culture of growth and accountability.
- Play an active role in shaping the future of the land development practice by contributing to strategic planning, innovation initiatives, and continuous improvement efforts.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree, preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of fifteen (15) years’ job-related experience.
- Licensure/Certification: Professional Engineer (PE).
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within the field.
- Proficient in Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Sketch-Up, Photoshop, and other related software programs.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook).
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a project team.
- Ability to interact with clients, project team, vendors, and other external groups in a professional manner.
