Your Opportunity + Impact
Join Larson Design Group (LDG) as a Fire Protection Engineering Intern and gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects that shape communities and critical infrastructure. This paid internship offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and consultants, supporting fire protection system design and life safety solutions across a diverse portfolio—including government, commercial, industrial, and retail projects.
As an intern, you’ll contribute to meaningful project work, develop technical and professional skills, and gain exposure to industry-leading tools and practices. Whether you're assisting with system layouts, participating in site visits, or learning design software like Revit, you’ll be an active member of the team from day one.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design and development of fire protection systems, including fire sprinklers, fire alarms, and life safety systems.
- Support the preparation of technical reports, drawings, specifications, and presentations for active projects.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data to contribute to engineering calculations, layouts, and design recommendations.
- Participate in site visits, field evaluations, and surveys to gain real-world project exposure.
- Conduct research on applicable fire codes, building codes, and industry standards to support project compliance.
- Collaborate with engineers and project teams to develop practical, code-compliant design solutions.
- Organize and maintain project documentation, including plans, reports, and supporting materials.
- Assist with smoke control design and fire code consulting efforts as needed.
- Apply problem-solving and analytical thinking to support project deliverables and team objectives.
- Manage assigned tasks effectively, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and attention to detail.
- Contribute ideas and perspectives in team discussions, demonstrating curiosity and initiative.
- Education: Junior or senior year student working towards their Bachelor’s Degree in specific department (Fire Protection).
- Experience: No previous relevant work experience is required. Prior internships in the A/E industry is preferred.
- Licensure/Certification: n/a
- Demonstrates a strong desire to expand knowledge and take on new responsibilities within fire protection systems, life safety design, and code consulting.
- Familiar in Revit and other related software programs
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook)
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and meet project deadlines effectively.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
